Transport Regulators Executive Committee
Through the Transport Regulators Executive Committee (TREC), ITSRR (the NSW rail safety regulator) works in partnership with regulators for bus (Transport and Infrastructure and Roads and Traffic Authority) and ferry (NSW Maritime) to deliver better coordinated strategy, policy and regulation across transport modes.
TREC comprises the Chief Executives and certain Senior Executives of the four agencies.
It is chaired by the Chief Executive of ITSRR, Len Neist, and meets approximately every six weeks.
The role of TREC is to:
- oversee the development and monitoring of inter-agency protocols for transport safety management (eg inter-agency agreements and dialogues);
- examine the regulatory framework in the rail, bus and ferry sectors to drive consistency in the approach to regulation across transport modes, where appropriate;
- manage the development and progress of portfolio-wide safety management initiatives (eg safety management systems, safety measures and improvements, and safety investigation recommendations);
- examine the scope for transport reform, having regard to contemporary and emerging safety issues and developments;
- provide advice on transport safety issues from time to time or when required by the Minister; and
- examine issues of reliability, particularly in respect of safety impacts.
