Seminars 2009

Executive Safety Seminars (ESS)

ITSRR has developed a series of Executive Safety Seminars which are aimed at the senior management of accredited rail operators. The aim of the seminars is to promote safety and provide an opportunity for continuous education and networking for the rail industry of NSW. They are held free-of-charge.

31 August 2009

Obligations for managing safety in an operator/contractor relationship

The Rail Safety Act 2008 places obligations on both rail transport operators and their contractors in the management of rail safety. At the Executive Safety Seminar on 31 August 2009, OH&S law expert Michael Tooma explained the application of the new requirements and how rail transport operators and their contractors can meet their obligations in practice.

Michael's presentation (see link below), was followed by a panel discussion featuring Natalie Pelham (ITSRR), Campbell Clark (RailCorp), Bruce Farrar (Robson Civil), Lindsay Holt (Laing O’Rourke), Graham Jackson (Transport Infrastructure Development Corporation) and Tim Ryan (Australian Rail Track Corporation). The panel discussed hypothetical scenarios and how they may be applied in the rail industry.

Managing Human Factors – Practical Tools for the Rail Industry

On 6 April 2009 ITSRR hosted an Executive Safety Seminar promoting an understanding of how rail transport operators and investigators can reduce incidents and near misses by applying a Human Factors approach that identifies the role of human behaviour and performance in safety occurrences.

ITSRR's Human Factors tools are focussed on the key rail safety areas of Signals Passed at Danger (SPAD), level crossings and worksite protection. Presentations from the seminar are available below.
