Notification of Occurrences
New regulations regarding notification of occurrences came into effect on 1 July 2006.
How have the requirements for notifying occurrences changed?
The requirements have been transferred from Schedule 3 of the Rail Safety Act 2002 to the regulations, consistent with arrangements in the National Model Legislation.
But there has been no change to what occurrences must be notified.
What occurrences must be notified?
All occurrences listed in the in the NSW Rail Safety Regulations.
Why were requirements for notification of occurrences moved to the new regulations?
The requirements for notification of occurrences have been transferred to the new regulations to facilitate future changes to the schedule of notifiable occurrences.
How do I lodge a notification of an occurrence?
As is currently the case, accredited operators are required to make an immediate telephone notification of serious occurrences by calling 1800 677 766 (24 hour service).
Written notification of occurrences, including serious occurrences where a telephone notification has already been made, is required within 72 hours.
The form for notification of occurrences, which includes a list of serious and other occurrences which must be reported, can be downloaded from ITSRR's website.
Operators also need to notify their workers compensation insurer and/or WorkCover of any workplace injuries and specified incidents.
