Proposed new rail/rail and road/rail interface obligations
The National Transport Commission (NTC) has proposed legislation that imposes new obligations on road authorities in NSW. These obligations involve developing interface agreements with rail infrastructure managers for road and rail crossings. Such agreements will cover the management of risks, amongst other things.
On behalf of the Minister for Transport, the Independent Transport Safety and Reliability Regulator (ITSRR) consulted with local government as road authorities about this important proposal during May 2007.
ITSRR has provided feedback on the proposed legislation to the NTC. The Australian Transport Council will vote on this reform package in September/October 2007. If approved, it will be adopted into NSW legislation.
