Rail Rules & Laws
In Australia, rail safety is regulated by state and territory regulators. ITSRR is the agency responsible for the administering rail safety regulation in NSW.
Under an Inter-Governmental Agreement, the National Transport Commission (NTC) is working with the states and territories to develop reforms to improve and strengthen the co-regulatory system for rail safety in Australia. This work includes the introduction of nationally consistent rail safety laws.

NSW Transport and Infrastructure is the main agency responsible for the administration of bus regulation.
Ferry Rules & Laws
NSW Maritime Authority is the agency responsible for the administration of recreational and commercial vessels regulation.
Rail Safety Reform
NSW rail safety laws have changed as part of a national program to improve rail safety management and consistency across jurisdictions. In NSW, the Rail Safety Act 2008 and supporting regulations commenced on 1 January 2009.
Transitional arrangements for the Rail Safety Act 2008 are in place for certain requirement including competency, rail and road interface coordination, private sidings and safety management system requirements.
